VISTA 09/10 Winter Session

The Premier Volleyball Academy (limited space is still available for 09/10 - as of 10/29/09)

Highlands VISTA is directed by Inger Condit, a well known name among Kansas City area volleyball coaches.  Inger spent 14 years as head coach at St. Pius X HS, retiring after the 2007 season.  Inger was also a college head coach for 3 years, and is Co-Director of Highlands VBC.  The Highlands Volleyball International Skills Training Academy - Highlands VISTA is designed for girls ages 7 - 11 years old and is the premier volleyball youth skills program in Kansas City North.  VISTA introduced in the winter of 2004-05 is entering the sixth year.  The program provides the opportunity for high level coaching geared to the youngest pool of future volleyball stars.  125 young players have been involved in VISTA since the inception.

The program's value can be seen through former participants.  Here are several examples of the value gained through the solid skills training and introduction to competitive volleyball:  girls who have made their high school junior varsity and varsity teams as 9th graders - including a varsity starter, girls excelling on nationally competitive teams through Highlands VBC and other elite clubs around the KC area - including Open level club teams.  Numerous girls coming through VISTA have helped their team earn the trip to play at Junior Olympic Nationals.

VISTA Academy participants receive 20 sessions of skills training beginning on November 23, 2009 - the beginning of March 2010
(09/10 Schedule is now posted below).  All sessions are led by experienced coaches know how to train and make it fun - key elements in learning to love the game and to prepare to play at the highest levels in the Kansas City area and beyond.  Training is conducted with a low player to coach ratio allowing an excellent teaching model. All skills training and coaching will be offered by a select group of volleyball coaches and players who have a passion for teaching young athletes.  All training is designed to be age appropriate with two styles of light weight balls and short intensive sessions.

Opportunities for putting the skills acquired into light competition settings will begin in the later stages of the VISTA Academy schedule.  Girls are encouraged to participate in the program for two to three years as they are being prepared to move into elite club tournament teams as they progress.  Join us in preparing for the excitement of competitive volleyball.

VISTA Academy fee is $225 (the same cost since 2007), this is inclusive covering registration, 20 training sessions, VISTA t-shirt and a friendly festival tournament.  All training is held in the Highlands Gym a nice clean large facility in KC North.

(For Ages 7 - 11 yrs old)

The Concept

Sports training models have begun introducing players to technical skills training at earlier ages with much success.  Volleyball training focused on learning how to perform the basic skills the right way needs to begin much earlier than has previously been the case for the vast majority of players in the Kansas City Northland area.  Highlands VISTA  brings into play the type of skills training important to development of high level volleyball athletes.  This opportunity allows the player to already understand and perform the key basic skills of passing, setting, serving, and attacking at a much younger age than say 11 and 12 or older when many players have traditionally been introduced to the game.

Delivering personalized style training is extremely effective with a low player to coach ratio allowing coaches to focus on teaching players to perform the basic skills of passing, setting, hitting and serving the right way.
